beautiful day connection It’s a beautiful day and we’re driving through Venice, California. We just drove by a woman who was texting while riding a bike. It’s maddening folks. How many articles do I need to write about, stop texting doing everything?

It’s a gorgeous day. It’s beautiful outside. The sun is shining, the sky is blue, people are happy and you are texting somebody who’s not even there. It’s insanity. It really is. It’s fucking insanity. People are doing this on a regular basis. People spend their life not being present. You spend your entire existence connecting with people who aren’t even there. It just blows me away. It’s literally crazy.

It’s nuts to see people texting non-stop. Folks, this is going to be a short one today. Get off the phone girls. Stop texting your friends and enjoy the beautiful day. This is a public service announcement from Broad View by people who can’t stand AT&T and iPhones.I have an idea that’s going to get rid of this crazy behavior. I want to create an app that’s called “The Present App.”

If you’re out and about, it will read the algorithms of the day. It’s a beautiful, sunny day. It hears other people’s voice, if it hears people talking or looking at you, the app will immediately block you from texting. If you’re in the middle of texting or the middle of something on Facebook, and someone tries to connect with you, the app is going to stop you and say, “Be present, be present, be present.”

Be present.

Turn off Facebook.

Stop texting.

Turn off Facebook.

Stop texting.

Instagram….shut it down.

Stop looking at pictures of people you don’t even know.

Stop Snapchatting.

That’s all you need to do. It’s going to help you. I’m going to call it “The Be Present app.”

Smart phones are an amazing tool, it enables you to spend money more easily, it enables you to gather information on the spot, but it makes meeting people who are in your area that can see you more difficult. One is one of the most important aspects in attracting a guy? Have you ever had a friend who guys loved to talk to more than you? While being attractive gets the guy's attention, but if you have two girls whom are easy on the eyes, he's going more attracted to the one who acts like she is, available. If he sees your available to socialize, he is going to be more attracted to that than observing you on your smart phone. Because for most guys, being so involved with your smart phone, you look unavailable, therefore not as attracted to them and 9 times out of 10, will avoid talking to you. The best thing to do, smile at guys whom you like to get to know better, be flirty, this is more attractive and now you know why that a friend of yours got more attention, now it's your turn :)

Hmm I see you've found David's previous blogs to us where he talks about putting the phone down and looking up. Well I'm pretty sure he even spoke of this just yesterday or the day before. I've a question for you - what does the "act" of availability look like?? Since each person is different from the other then what one see's as available is seen as completely different to someone else. I make eye contact and smile at guys in passing everyday. Just because I smiled doesn't mean I want to get to know him better. I'm naturally flirty. The reason why my girlfriend got the guy is because he was more her type and his energy wasn't mine. Was I content with that - absolutely. See I have written out the type of man I crave starting from the top of his head all the way down to his toes. I could draw a picture of what he looks like inside and out. So it only takes me seconds to see if the one crossing my path is him. Then.... I check why my phone vibrated :)

I think just being aware of your surroundings and willing to smile and make eye contact with someone you find attractive is a big way of being available. Of course there's no guarantee the person you're flirting with will also be single/divorced and available but at least you can say you tried.

Hey mike, Is it true that guys get the hint if we just smile? Will this encourage them to come up to us? I noticed men are on their phones a lot too so it's hard to make eye contact if they are glued to their cell. What is a girl suppose to do? Lol

Hi Jenny :) Men on smart phones is quite the problem as well especially for women who are interested in talking to them, so what a girl has to do is...Walk up to him, snatch that stupid phone from him, then put it on the ground and step on it and tell him it's time for a little chat...lol :) Just kidding! In all seriousness, your going to have to make him aware of you. This requires being proactive. So you see him on his stupid cell phone and you noticed he's been on it for awhile. Walk up to him and ask him where the bathroom is. You need something to stay in the area, if you ask for directions on how to get to a particular place, you take yourself out of the area as he figures your just going to that place. If it's the bathroom even it's not in the area or if your shopping and ask where a particular item is that is easy to find, you can come back and remain in the area. The mission here is, making him aware of you. So you give him your smile and good eye contact, even give him a compliment for helping you out. Then return to the area and see if is curious enough to look up. Perhaps even walk by him again and say hi with a smile along with good eye contact and slowly keep walking. Linger in the area for a few moments more to see if he responds. By this time, he will know your are interested and when you do talk, tell him that phone is no good for meeting people in the area! :)

Hóla Miguel I think conversation and approaching are two different things. I consider random public comments simply that..... comments instead of conversation. I'm not keeping score on who opens up, me or them. I say them because I talk to everyone, my gardener, the officer that pulled me over, the bank teller, the pharmacy tech, the yoga instructor, the front desk at my gym, housekeeping at my gym, the Jehovah's Witness knocking at my door (I love when they come by and I'm Catholic), the judge mediating my divorce and even the person begging for money on the corner. So when I go anywhere I'm open. Why not?? I grew up in a small country area where everyone knew of each other. I have noticed some men ask if I was talking to them. After I say yes they have this relieved happy embarrassed look about them. There have been times when my fear from rejection instantly grew but then I quickly remind myself of the Golden Rule and I keep on walking with my head held high and a smile on my face :-)

@ mike, The guy at the gym is a regular and see him all the time when I take classes. I have looked over a few times he's way into his workout and doesn't really glance over. I have seen him look at the class schedule on the wall a times but I haven't had the nerve to say anything. I don't know what to say and I don't want to seem weird. I've spoken to him before but it's in passing like when we happen to both leave the gym at the same time. once in a while I see him check me out but no biggie im sure he checks out lots of girls at the gym. I wonder if he's shy or taken?..

Hello Mike :-) I get a kick out of catching guys off guard in a good way of course. So this is how I handled the long uneventful Starbucks line. Guy behind me is glued to his phone, I mean glued. He must have an internal GPS of when to look up and make eye contact with the Barista. So I took the opportunity to ask him if he was checking how far ahead he was with his Fantasy Football league and if his opponents had more injured players than he did. The guy said YES!!! Ha ha!! Barista asks me what I want to drink and I give my usual - Dry Venti Cappuccino. Convo continues all the way to when I get my heavy (not supposed to be) Venti and I let the Barista know my Venti is "too wet" so he takes it back. Of course this most of the time starts a whole new convo on my wet Venti and well Mike I'm sure you can use your imagination on this one :-) Have a good one!

@Mike I agree with you....I do not text (my phone is an antiquity), I do not Facebook, Tweet, Instagram and whatever else is out there. My almost 8 year old daughter is starting to slightly "freak" her very private and introverted mother out with talks of Facebook when she is older!! I see many interesting conversations in the future. I love your input Mike. Nice to hear from you.

Oh Chris just you wait mamacita for the teenage time. I have two daughters, almost 18 and 14. Our conversations these days are either about sexuality, clothing, friendships, respecting ourself, drinking and driving and/or SnapChat. I'll share a lovely convo my daughters wanted to have just the other evening - Thing 1: Mom why do guys love blowjobs Me: WTF said my insides. Thing 2: Oh great Thing 1's a slut now Me: Wait, she didn't say she did it, she's asking.... right?? Thing 1: Mom.... all the girls at school do it and X "punk" (my word) asked me to do it to him. Me: Oh geeze, ok ok ok give me a minute. Thing 1: remember when you sucked on your finger when you were a toddler? Thing 1: Yes Me: Well I imagine you did that because it felt good and a little comfort of safety?? Thing 1: Yeah I guess Thing 2: Is that called Deep Throat?? Me: Oh god help me now - I say this out loud. Thing 1: Shut up Thing 2, yeah mom let's deep throat it. By now I'm slightly irritated because I can tell by now that both are egging on my slightly uncomfortable vibe. So not being out done and calling their bluff I grab a banana and proceed to show them. Not to be out done... Thing 1: Alright now we're having a deep throat contest.. ok they won!!! Oh the good ole days of "Zac stepped on my blanket when we woke up from our nap" at pre-school. What I shared after this was personal and something I wish teenage girls would hear more often then not and in a nut shell; to honor themselves because no one else will.

That is very cute Cheryl...Thanks for sharing. Nope, the sex stuff does not scare me at all but the social media talk does....I find we live in a very noisy world, a supposedly connected world but yet people have a hard time communicating. All I can do is have loads of discussions with my daughter and lead by example. When she is older, it will be up to her to navigate through the social media maze (hopefully with the proper tools). I am personally unwilling to do social medias. I am definitely a bucker....You can call me a motherbucker.....

I did an experiment a few years ago where I went 24 hours without the Internet including not checking email or my phone (and ironically, later blogged about it -- LOL.) It was wonderful; I got so much done and I make a point of doing it again from time to time. I heard that there is a day called No Internet Day - have to look up when the official day is. I'm going out with my Meetup group tomorrow to a coastal town to get fried clams and then we're visiting a new meadery that opened up -- a place that makes mead, an ancient sweet wine made of fermented fruit. I can't wait, as it'll also be a beautiful autumn day here in New England tomorrow. I only leave the phone on until all of the members have arrived, then it goes into sleep mode or I turn it off altogether.

Hi Jenny, Yes exactly Oh Well!! His loss too. I mean provided you've really worked on yourself and have committed to this internal growth mindset then yes his loss. I believe we don't have to understand the cellphone addiction, It is what it is. I wouldn't make a snap judgement on the guy either just because I first saw him glued to his phone. I have to remind myself to let the guy go too if isnt receptive to my hello, text, email snail mail or care package that I've been known to mail. I think David has blogged about the sweetness of receiving a handwritten letter or card, something to that affect. I learn a little something each day about human contact/connection. I know you understand that putting yourself out there creates such vulnerable feelings. My head tells me OFTEN very often to not put myself out their, play hard to get. I would really like to play cat and mouse, be distant and aloof. Yet my heart refuses to play games. I'm in a cranky mood at the moment and tonight I'm thinking that being nice isn't what the male wants. I'm becoming more and more convinced that the courtesy and compassion of something like "hello I received your care package" is an close to extinction.

Yes I say comment versus conversation. So when I tell the guy next to me that I'll race him to the top that's a comment. The dialogue you had with the waitress I consider a conversation. How well you ask?? Depends how I feel after words have been shared. If I had his attention, he was receptive then it went well. If I felt stonewalled or discounted then I feel bad. So how well am I getting to know people when I talk to them? Mike that is a fantastic question and one that is my Achilles hill darn you. I have discovered that I struggle asking him questions. I'm deeply curious to a point of having a brain stuffed with questions about him. I have noticed in the last 6 months that I freeze from asking him questions. I do wonder if I'm coming across as full of myself and not interested. Which is farthest from the truth. The brain is funny and I don't know what's lesser of the two hindrances - shaping my mind around a person (ex) who shut off questions allowed to me for 20 years or being single for 20 years?? Don't peg me for frozen 100% of the time, I have had a handful of deep conversation about him but on a whole this one isn't like riding a bike. I hang out everywhere and chances are yes there will be a man there. For example, I go to my house curb today to check my mail. I see the cable guy is parked right by my driveway beneath my beautiful shady tree. I notice his windows are rolled down. I ask him if he's coming to my house. He says no. I then say, "oh well then you like my tree's shade." Cable guy says, "ok, you caught me." Then somehow we get on the topic of thieves posed as cable guys. It's was a comical five minutes. Oh or how about the gas company guy who came out to my report of gas smell in my home when I turned my dryer on. The guy checks out my dryer and I offer him a water because it's hot. He then starts talking away about his calls. Yeah he's a cutie pie and conversational and single. I talk about how our appliances these days breakdown pronto and that calling customer service in Makati Philippines is so frustrating and he agrees. He then takes my dryer apart tells me how to re-attach the internal and external ducting system and then gives me his phone number and tells me to call him if I have any trouble reattaching these and reassembling my dryer. Yeap I called him once and then he called me three times that evening to "make sure all went well" he even offered to come back to make sure I reattached everything correctly. I think David just blogged about this. He blogged about our vibes and how our energy emits to others so we will either take off or crash and burn out.

What a motivating post! David, I think you're echoing my Mom. Yes, I've missed beautiful days because I sit at my computer and get lost in virtual reality. Before I know it, the light has dimmed and the day is gone. Lately, I can almost hear my Mom groan in exasperation, "Not again at the computer" before fading away. The internet is a time suck. It takes me away from living. Ditto for telephone conversations. I've been trying to back away from both. I don't text with a phone or use apps so I don't have that problem. When I'm present, petting my cats, doing chores, puttering around the house, or enjoying the outdoors, I'm happier because I'm not surrounding myself with the toxicity of the internet.

I came across you on Facebook & I totally agree with you! No one is present anymore. People don't even call people anymore, they prefer to text so that they have made contact but they haven't actually connected. People have stopped connecting. How can we ever meet the love of our lives when no connections are being made :(
