The woman doesn't have to submit to her man. There's this little thing called "listening to each other's concerns" and "compromise". And that's the key to a successful relationship. Both people have to listen to each other and work with each other. If there's disagreements, they'll work it out in a rational manner. No one will rule over the other and say "THATS WHAT WERE DOING FINAL DECISION".

No self-respecting, God fearing, strong, independent, FREE female should give a crap about what any human thinks (whether they have a penis or a vagina) and listen to no-one but what the mighty Yahweh alone thinks, not some random dude on the internet with a small penis. I don't know your name and I refuse to begin my response with "ManlyDude" so I will just respond. Your comments are tantamount to say that a democracy doesn't work and only a dictatorship works. I assume you are not living and loving China and/or parts of the old Russia? How is equality BS? What can men do that women can't? Apart from pee while standing up...although.... Are you putting ALL divorces down to women wanting a equal voice? I think you'll find that most divorces are due to infidelity or financial woes. Gone are the days where the man is the bread winner and the woman is the stay at home, no opinion, no right to question, little lady. Today women work, they bring in salaries (sometimes equal to or better than their partners), today women are able to (and not frowned at for doing so) juggle working with motherhood and do you know how? Because their partner/husband/boyfriend doesn't sit back on the sofa with his feet up bemoaning his "hard day at work" and saying "get me a beer, what times' dinner". They now do their fair share - in healthy relationships that is. I think you need to get back into your time machine and leave the 1940s. The day my marriage becomes a "business" is the day I give up on it.

I agree with Anita. People who say that someone has to be 'in charge' in a relationship are just spewing BS. The only reason for a person to want domination over their partner is insecurity, and that's never attractive.

Totally agree with Anita here, this idea that women should submit to you as if you're on some kind of domination trip stems from your insecurity and fear of allowing your partner freedom, not from any kind of balance or love. A healthy relationship means having the freedom to completely be yourself, not submitting to the will of someone else. Any human being lacking in either of what you call masculine or feminine energy, which is really just human traits, is going to be lacking and imbalanced, characterised by a lack of personal power or the need to be dominant over the other. Both of these traits stem from being stuck at the level of power struggles and ego, and no human being with real integrity and self-sufficiency would ever subscribe to that kind of relationship.

Woohhooo!! I think this is one of David's best articles..Really feeling this one..So so true.. Ladies are used to be being very successful at work and using their masculine energy, leading a team, maybe even being the sole provider of their children, working hard, getting what they want.. Its all a balance, when they go home to their man or even dating that is when there should be a switch, to just relax and melt into their feminine energy and learn and just surrender and let go..It really does feel good..to not always be the "doer" We all have natural feminine energy just being women..Alot of times we "forget" or shut this part down..

That's actually where you're wrong. Not all of us have this "natural" feminine energy. I try very hard to appear to have feminine energy, but that's all it is, an act. It's not relaxing to be feminine, not to me, simply because it doesn't come to me naturally. Don't get me wrong, I do try. But the fact of the matter is that's it's not natural and I think it's unfair for one to not acknowledge that. If you find it relaxing, more power to you, I'm really jealous of you!

Sorry Jean Paul but I have to disagree. The meaning of submissive: meek, passive, obedient, compliant, patient, resigned, yielding, accommodating, humble, subdued, lowly, abject, amenable, docile, dutiful, ingratiating, malleable, deferential, pliant, obsequious, uncomplaining, tractable, acquiescent, biddable, unresisting, bootlicking. This is an old-fashioned and blinkered view on how "women" should be in order to be feminine. I am not submissive nor am I domineering. I am very petite and feminine but I believe passionately that women are equal to men in every way. To be a mother you must be strong. To raise children you must have a relevant point of view and a voice otherwise you are just a baby making machine. To be a working woman you must have confidence and the ability to speak out when necessary. All things necessary to leave a modern life. I'm not saying that people who are submissive are wrong. I'm just disagreeing that non submissive women are not feminine and not considered attractive. Men who find submissive women attractive and the opposite not are weak in themselves and lacking confidence in their ability to stand side by side with their partner.

Hmm... I'm not sure where you got that definition from. In any case, I expect my women to be submissive to me, however, this doesn't mean they have to obey my every word. This is just nature, women who are truly feminine naturally submit to their men - this doesn't take away any of their power. Regardless of how much we argue, masculine women are not attractive to strong men. This is biology, not amount of intellectual discourse will change that. In the same vein, a woman's physical appeal will always have more influence on her attractiveness than her intellect or achievement. It's harsh reality. You don't believe me? Find a young beautiful woman, with a nice body and put her up against an intelligent, smart, funny woman who has a boyish body. Take a walk down the street with both of them and see which one will attract more attention. I restate my point: submissive doesn't mean weak.

You are right. Someone strong is strong, period. If you are a strong, confident, independent person you will actually want other people to be strong, confident and independent as well, because you know it feels good. Now if you need them to lower themselves for you... that's because you have never been strong in the first place. These are the most weak, insecure people.

Not sure if everyone is subscribed to David's newsletters, but this came in my e-mail a couple of days ago, and it is really very insightful and a nice supplement to this post. (Hope its ok posting this here) As a man I want my woman to be feminine, nurturing, loving and sweet. I don’t want her to have boobs and a penis. I want her to smell nice. I want her to dress sexy. I want her to be able to tap into her femininity. Her femininity means she’s sweet, she listens, she doesn’t battle me on everything we do. Very masculine women will battle men on everything. They get off on the battle.They’re very masculine women because they’ve had to always take care of themselves. They’ve got this feeling of me against the world… just like dad taught. Your dad might have taught you how to survive, but he definitely didn’t teach you how to be feminine and attract men. We need you to tap into that femininity. We need you to tap into that on a daily basis. When we go out on a date with you we don’t want you to challenge us all of the time. When you constantly contradict and battle us, we see you as a very masculine woman, and that’s not sexy to a masculine man. Our gender roles are such that a man wants to feel very feminine around a woman. A male wants to be nurtured by a woman. Men basically want a woman, not another dude. So, if you find yourself going out on a lot of first dates that don’t go anywhere think about the way you conduct yourself on those dates. Are you conducting yourself as a masculine woman on a business meeting or are you conducting yourself as a feminine woman who is inquisitive about the man that you’re sitting across, the man that you want to get to know? I thought this was a good article overall. I showed it to my gf, and she felt like David was telling women to have a "split personality" for day and night. I told her I was attracted to her being too feminine, rather than too masculine. David, maybe you would be willing to blog tackle the difficult subject of defining exactly what is feminine and masculine. What are the attitudes/behaviors that attract the opposite sex?

You're an infant, and you have no goddamn idea what you're talking about. I'm an extremely masculine woman, if in personality rather than appearance, and I'm very popular with men. Not even feminine men exclusively either. I get asked out and flirted with on a pretty regular basis and I haven't been single since I was a girl.

David, a lot of assertive type girls and women don't even care if we ever get married, I don't feel like I'm something that needs fixing. I am 37 and work in finance, own my home, am a published author and am on the verge of starting my own business on the side. I am very happy with my life and I mean that sincerely. I may look feminine, I have beautiful long red hair that is very healthy and would give other girls' hair a run for its money, I am petite, 5ft tall and just under 100 lbs, but I cannot think more feminine because I was not born that way. I guess I think more like a man and because of that I don't hear that biological clock ticking or worry about finding a man like a more feminine woman would. I've had one boyfriend my whole life, but I broke up with him because he started talking about marriage. He is the only guy I dated long-term, other guys I've just dated here and there. Guys at my office like me, they tell me my hair is pretty :) one hits on me all the time. But I think if they got to know me, they wouldn't like my personality and like I said, I'm not really looking for commitment anyway. I don't mean to sound like a ball buster, I don't hate men at all. I find men very fascinating and cool. My personality is not about trying to be a feminist or showing men up, it is just the natural way I am at my core. I think that is what some people don't understand about the difference between masculine and feminine women. They think masculine women are fighting their femininity or they've been robbed of it by the feminist movement. I think true masculinity or femininity comes from your mind. Just like some folks are born gay or some straight, some are born with more masculine thoughts and some feminine. Its the chemical reactions and makeup of your brain that helps decide personality and I don't think you can just change that so you can catch a man or be something else. I think people who try to change what is at their core end up getting harmed emotionally because they are not being true to themselves. If a women who is more masculine decided she wanted to date you and changed a lot about herself to get you, what good would that do her if she is miserable because she is hiding who she truly is? See that is what wouldn't make sense, at least not to me.
