Her name was Yannet. She was my very first love I had. And for some dumb reason we broke up. I suffered for 4 months. I couldn't eat right, I couldn't stop thinking about her!! My brother took me out of the hole I was in,,and I thank him. But it's so true what David says that we learn from each relationship we've had. I learned through David's podcasts that we all need to practice self-love and that there's no such thing as rejection. The most powerful gift that I have is having a positive attitude. Trust me, if you practice self-love and have a positive attitude, then nothing can stop us from having a nice relationship.

Dear David, That was an amazing podcast!!! One of your very best and as you mentioned, John is truly and amazing and wonderful man!! His letter was very truthful and vulnerable!!! The answer to the question you asked was Santa Claus!! It was a children's story called "Twas The Night Before Christmas". At the end of the story, St. Nick say's the immortal words, "Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!" :-)

Hi David, I recently started reading your stuff. I just read "Always talk to strangers" and it's amazing. Thanks for all the advice, although it all seems very easy with all that energy you project (sorry about the spelling... I'm from Colombia). That was an amazing podcast david, thank you so much. Just listening to this now and reflecting on my past relationships i have realized a pattern of things going wrong with my relationships. They may not have been the main factor as too why the relationship ended but they are a factor. A factor that i have ignored and that i need to learn from. thank you for opening my eyes to this and stopping me from being ignorant to it. Hope you have a merry christmas David and everybody that reads your blog :D

John was incredibly honest and vulnerable in sharing this. I'm sure many people can relate to this. This was an awesome podcast David. What a blessing to have such a wise woman like your mom to share something like that at such a young age. It's great that you've taken that to heart and carried that forward with every relationship. You're right, too many people shut down after a break up and close their hearts. They get angry and bitter and start blaming their ex in order to avoid taking responsibility for their part in what happened and learning the lessons that they need to learn from the experience. i

Thank you so much David and everyone who has commented. It means so much to me. I’ve been writing my lessons since the break up for both closure and clarity. I’ve decided to do something I’ve never done before. I signed up to run my first 10K in February and I can’t wait! I start training tomorrow! Until then, David’s mother is exactly right. I am more confident now in knowing what I want in a relationship and that knowledge is priceless. He had a wonderful year and a half which he will always remember fondly. I liked the last part of your podcast. I'm glad I listened until the end. I used to keep things from guys I'd meet. For one, I never told them about my blog in case they thought it was stupid...and because sometimes my posts are really personal...but I don't want anyone who thinks I'm stupid for blogging...and I want someone I can trust with anything...so I'm going to stop doing that. Hi David, It would be an injustice to call you 'just a dating coach'. Have been subscribed to several coaches this year and quickly got bored of all the 'pickup artists' out there. Turning over a new leaf I have unsubscribed from those and stuck with you. There's so much more here than pickup tips. This is something we all have to go through from our "first love" breakups. Long distance relationships rarely work, and now you know to avoid them, by experience. We think the world is over, and we will never find another love like it. Advice from friends varies from "Buck up and get over it", or, "be a man", to letting you cry on their shoulder, with words of comfort, praise, and understanding, like David's. It is just another part of learning to be a mature man, who is in control of his emotions, and knows how to deal with lifes traumas and inevitable dissapointments... Time heals all wounds, and it is just part of life, and learning how to be a man. We have all been through it, and have learned to move on, to the next challenge and experience.Good luck, and there is no doubt, that you will be a stronger man through your trials.

Wygant, I believe in this situation for John he finally went through one of the most hardest set backs in his life. Love is blind, stimulating, painful but at the end the best lesson we can go through. John please keep your head up and like the coaches SAY!!!!! Don't take it personal its not you. You'll become a very stronger individual after this whole cloud leaves you. It will stick with you for a while like Wygant said, you'll always remember the one that took your verginity and heart.
