Uber CabsIt seems like every single week there’s some new trendy app taking the market by storm, and right now, “Uber” is the new cool thing. There’s been tons of TV coverage about it, and it’s been all over the Internet. If you haven’t heard anything about Uber, it’s an app where you can log in and call a driver to come and pick you up. It’s an alternative to the normal cab companies, so if you’re with a bunch of drunken friends, you can get yourself home.

It’s pretty simple to sign up to Uber. They take credit card of course, but good luck trying to get a text message back from Uber. I tried to use it at the airport the other day, and even after sending them 7 messages, I never heard back from them. Although I didn’t have much luck with it, Uber is the new cool app on the block and people seem to love it.

So here you are, a beautiful, sexy woman. You’re a little drunk. You know it’s not cool to drink and drive, so you do the cool thing and take Uber. You turn on your iPhone. You push your little button, see what cars are in the area, and the nearest one you like comes to get you. But who are Uber?

Well, they’re cheaper than a cab, but there’s a big problem with Uber; they’re unregulated!

Uber drivers are just random people who signed up to become a driver using the company’s platform. The screening process isn’t that great, in fact, there was a case where a driver in San Francisco attacked a passenger. When they found out he worked for Uber, the police checked his file and even though he has a criminal record, he somehow passed the Uber criminal history check!

How did he become an Uber driver?

He just had to have a decent car, fill out an application, and he was immediately accepted. It’s scary if you ask me. You’re a single woman, you’re out on your own, and now you’re getting into some random stranger’s car. It’s a completely unregulated industry, so if you’re so drunk you pass out in the back of a car, how the hell do you know what’s going to happen to you?

It’s amazing in today’s day and age, we seem to do whatever is cool instead of what’s right and safe. Facebook was cool. Twitter was cool. Instagram was cool. Now, Uber is cool. Everyone wants to do the cool thing, regardless of whether it’s good for them. Cabs are more expensive, I get that, but at least they’re insured, they’re regulated, and there are videos in the cab. Not much can go wrong in a cab.

What happens if you get into an accident with Uber?

What happens if the driver makes a play for you, you reject him, and he gets a little angry?

Obviously, if you get into a rogue cab, you could be in as much danger, but personally I’d rather stick to a cab until we know a bit more about Uber. Once we get to the truth behind Uber, and they become properly regulated then knock yourself out, and go with the next cool thing. Until they prove any different, it’s just another ridiculous trendy thing.

Oh, and if you’re still thinking about jumping in an Uber cab, this section from their terms and conditions might change your mind…
