Is Your Life Like A Broken Blender?

The other night I was having dinner at a café. It’s a completely vegetarian restaurant. I’ve eaten there plenty of times before, Café Gratitude. I’m actually changing my diet right now. I’m getting kind of sick of these grainy rice bowls they have. I’m switching more to potatoes, leeks, and those kinds of things. I’ve changed things around in my diet and having more protein to see how I feel.
This week I’ve had a lot more energy than I usually have so I think getting more protein is actually better for my body. I can’t resist going to Café Gratitude because I like the people who work and eat there. I always get into good conversations, which is always important to me when I’m out. This time I was talking to Marshall who works there. He’s an interesting guy in all shapes and forms. We’re talking and suddenly the blender out back starts making a weird noise.
“The blender sounds sick Marshall.” I said.
He looks at me and says, “Yeah I don’t think it’s catching any more at the bottom.”
“Kind of like a lot of people in life. Just sitting around and not really catching.” I replied.
Does YOUR life feel like a blender?
You know when a blender just doesn’t work that well anymore, or a screw that’s lost its thread and keeps spinning around?
Do you feel like a broken down blender? Every time you get a bit of momentum, you feel like you’re just spinning your wheels. You go out there and try to meet people. Things go well for a day or two. Then suddenly you feel like you’re spinning your wheels again. Life can do that to you sometimes. Sometimes life feels like a broken blender. You can feel like you’re just spinning around in circles. You keep trying to move forward but you’re stuck. If you ever feel that way, you need to stop and take a time out.
Start getting present and notice the little things in life. The sound of the night is so beautiful. The sight of the sun going down over the ocean is amazing. Seeing the way trees move in the breeze is beautiful. Start seeing the beauty all around you, and make it your goal to squeeze the juice out of every single day. It’s about stopping and getting out the rush of life.
Do You Take Time To Relax?
Just as I took time out to enjoy some stillness and relaxation on my vacation to East Hampton, you need to do the same. It’s especially important if you live in a busy city. There’s something about getting the sound of the city out of your body and going into the country. I like to just sit, chill, and think. I like to figure out where I am in life, where I want to go, and what I want to do.
It’s such a grounding experience and you need to detach just for a while and let your thoughts go. None of us can keep going and going without wearing ourselves down. If you keep pushing a drill too hard without stopping what happens?
The drill bit overheats and breaks off. You need to take time to ground yourself, and figure out who you are and where you’re going. It’s the only way you’re going to achieve your goals. Otherwise, you’re just going to end up like a broken down old blender!
I’m home now and things are already crazy busy work wise. In fact, I had the cut vacation short to get back and shoot a TV program about dating. More on that another time!
