Wayne Dyer – Why Life Is So Precious

I’ve been on vacation this week, and I’m sitting here in the Hamptons with my friend John. We were recording some videos late the other night. All of a sudden, John says to me, “Wow, I can’t believe it. That’s so sad.” I looked at him, and he had this look in his eyes.
That’s when John told me the news that Wayne Dyer had passed away. Wayne Dyer, to me, was an incredible soul. I met Wayne probably four or five times. I had the opportunity to have dinner with him, sit and listen to his wisdom and teachings, his way of thinking, his way of life.
He’s one of the people that truly impacted me. I always felt invigorated after speaking with him. The man had such an incredible outlook on life that was so amazing, so positive, so different. His generosity is something that will always leave an impression on me. The man was one of the most generous people I’ve ever met, taking care of so many people, being so generous with his money and time.
As a writer, I read a number of his books and I always remember that one message that always hit home with me. Live through your heart and not through your ego. I also know from talking to Wayne that, when he passed, he always knew he’d go somewhere else, somewhere amazing. Even so, it still kind of hits you because he was only 75 years old.
I remember the last time I saw him it was in Maui and he was on the beach. I’d just finished a long swim. I came out of the water and he talked to my ex and I. It was probably five years ago. I remember talking to him, seeing him, thinking to myself, “this man is amazing.” He swims the ocean in Hawaii. He gets up at 3:00 in the morning and writes. He creates such beauty and people line up for days to listen to him talk and to see him.
It makes me realize how close I am to 75. I looked up to this man thinking that he would live forever (or at least for a long time). There are not many people who I’ve had the opportunity to meet, that really impacted me. But whenever I had a chance to sit down and have dinner with Wayne, I was able to learn so much from him.
I was honored to have the time with him and very appreciative of it.
An amazing man has passed away. Look at his death as an eye-opener for you. This man had such passion for living, passion for life, passion for people. So take his death and do something with your life. Start living it. It was almost a year ago that my Mom passed away. In the year since she passed, I feel like I didn’t really live that much. I feel like I went through the motions. I feel like I went through my life not with the usual oomph and zest I usually have.
Wow. Death is interesting. We’re not going to live forever. None of us are. Even though I thought Wayne would live forever. Nobody will. Take death, and realize you still have a chance to live, a chance to do the things you want to do, a chance to explore the world in a way you want. Don’t waste another minute, because you don’t know how many minutes you have left.
