I love the holiday time.
I don’t love Christmas and all that other stuff because it’s just, to tell you the truth, too much emotion.
I had a pretty mediocre Christmas.
My kid came over sick.
Opened her present.
She was fine, and all of a sudden called Mom to just say goodnight and literally melted down.
And what happened next? She disappeared into the mommy vortex, taking away a precious night and taking away a beautiful Christmas for me.
You know what? Shit happens, man, especially with kids. Kids are the ultimate question mark all the time. So I woke up the next morning, and I was like, you know what, at the end of the year, I’ve got a Macbook Pro. It’s four and a half years old. It’s served me very, very well. I’ve got somebody who wants to buy it for $650.
So it’s time for me to get cracking.
Craigslist is my favorite place during the end of the year, and this is how I’m going to explain it to you to get the deal.
Number one: The end of the year is the best time to buy other peoples’ gifts.
Think about it. There’s lots of students, lots of people who get gifts from their parents, and they’d rather have the cash than the computer. So just about every single time I’ve ever bought a Mac, I have bought it from a kid or student using an exchange student whose parents spent full cost on something, and they’d rather have the cash.
I will go on Craigslist. I’ll take a look and find the lowest priced one and then lowball them even more.
Which leads to number two:
A deal is only a deal when you know that you’ve gotten it as a steal.
The Macbook Pro that I’m staring at right now, the brand new one with the touch bar, retails for about $2,000. Then there’s that recycling fee, and then there’s that unbelievably obnoxious 10% California sales tax.
So basically, it’s a $2,200 machine, which I am not going to buy, nor am I going to pay because, basically, once you buy any type of electronic, immediately, it’s depreciated, so you want to be able to buy electronics or other peoples’ gifts already depreciated so you get a free year of use out of it if you don’t like it.
$1,500. I basically stayed on my price, $1,500, and got the deal that I wanted.
