I remember a long time ago when texting first came out. I thought it was the coolest thing in the entire world.
I never had to call anybody. I could just get on my phone and stare at the screen. At that time, it wasn’t really much of a screen, it was a Blackberry Pearl if you remember those. I would stare at the little screen and I would literally let my fingers do all the talking.
The Actual Phone Call
I used to be that guy who would sit at home at night and call women on the phone and get to know them. I remember I’d get a few phone numbers from women and I would call them all up to see which ones I connected with best, who fit my personality and who I got the most excited by.
Nowadays, nobody actually takes the time to talk on the phone anymore. But that used to happen; we used to spend hours on the phone, meeting women, getting to know them, connecting. I was great at intriguing women over the phone.
I enjoyed that. I really enjoyed the whole thing about connecting. I loved the phone call. I called it dialing for a relationship.
But then texting came along and I could talk to a few different women at the same time. It was great for dating.
Texting Changed the Dating Game
I remember when I first started texting, probably back around 2007, I was having relationships where I never even picked up the phone. I was in the text relationships.
Sometimes at night, we would just lay in bed when we weren’t together and we would text each other for hours instead of talking. I would anticipate every single text coming in because it was new, it was exciting, and, well, it was just different than talking on the phone.
I kind of look back now and think to myself that I kind of miss the talking. I’m really tired of people texting each other constantly. It gets boring. Now when I start texting somebody I kind of fizzle out after a while. After about a week of texting back and forth, I kind of get bored. I don’t find it really that exciting at all anymore.
