Today we have part two from our guest Blogger Red. If you missed yesterdays post check out confessions from bootcamp part 1. Without further introduction heres Red!!!
Thanks David and hello again fellow bloggers. Let me pick up where I left off yesterday
For Saturday’s Boot camp, we walked around Union Square. In the beginning, I had to work with AJ and Jordan who were both from pickuppodcast.com. They gave me and a few others the task of stopping people while they are walking and to ask for directions to ABC Furniture and to also get one piece of information about the person. I was frightened. I don’t even ask people for directions when I am lost on the road. In fact I never approach people. Now I have to approach people while they are walking and stop them, then ask for directions and then get one piece of information about them!?
Crazy thing is I felt such a high from David’s conversation the night before, I stopped over thinking and I just followed what the instructors told me to do. Some of the people I stopped didn’t know the directions. But most of the people that knew the directions, were more than willing to give me at least one piece of information about himself or herself. I felt really good. I was like, “Wow, approaching people isn’t as hard as I thought.”
Then the next task was for me, M.P. and Grant (another Boot camp member) was to work with Jordan. He took us to Circuit City and told us to start talking to people. He then pointed out a beautiful tall Russian girl for me to talk with. Then I’m thinking, ‘Holy shit! How the fuck am I gonna do this!?” Then I told myself to stop over thinking and being so negative. I approached her and told her that, I am looking for a video for my twelve year old sister, preferably a comedy. I asked her for help. I couldn’t believe it again; this beautiful Russian girl took around three to four minutes of her time looking for a DVD for my sister. Then she picked out “Patch Adams” starring Robin Williams.
I felt so great, that I approached another cute girl and asked her the same thing I did with the beautiful Russian girl. The next girl I approached was a film major!!! She couldn’t stop talking and she was so insistent on helping me get the right movie for my sister. Then Jordan, M.P. and Grant told me it was time to go, so I thanked her for her help. In terms of training for the rest of the day, it was like that, but it was catered to the individuals’ weaknesses. The training I received that Saturday during the day was top notch, as well as hands on and helped increase my confidence to new levels.
Then Saturday night rolled around and David takes us to a bar/lounge.
David from the beginning tells us that he hates places like this because it is so competitive and is pretty much a waste of time. I come into the bar/lounge and sit down with the instructors and the rest of the group attending the Boot camp. I look around and almost all of the beautiful girls seem to be so bored. They are either texting or on the phone. I mean why come to a place like this if you are going to do that?
Then Adrian tells the group to talk to a group of girls that are around the corner. I look towards the corner and I see a beautiful girl that looked Middle Eastern that was in that group of girls. I felt so confident that I got up and approached the group of girls. I admit I was extremely nervous before doing it, but I stopped over thinking and just did what I was told. I introduce myself to the group of girls and pretty much each one of them is attractive. I go to the Middle Eastern girl and tell her, “Why are you texting? If you’re gonna text, you should be with the person you are texting.” Then what does she do? She takes the phone and turns it off. Then I sit next to her and start talking to her!!!
It was a great night and what touched me the most was when David said, “See guys I rather sit here with you guys than talk to the girls here.” Then I realized that my whole mindset on life was wrong. It’s not about hot girls. I shouldn’t try to talk to only hot girls. I should try to talk to all girls of all types.
In fact I should try and talk to people in general, which includes guys. What I was trying to do was have an on and off switch when it comes to talking to people especially a hot girl. Meaning if I saw a hot girl and only if it was a hot girl, then I would be willing to talk and be social. I wanted to turn my switch on when I talked to a hot girl. This whole approach is wrong because our switch in terms of when to be social should be on all the time. We shouldn’t try to be social when a hot girl is around. Think of it this way, if I see a hot girl and I want to be social with her, then I will have a hard time talking to her because I am not used to being social with random people, let alone a hot girl. It will be that much harder for me to talk to a hot girl. Why not make it easier on myself and talk to people of all types.
Talk to people, whether they are fat, ugly or beautiful. By talking to people, I will be more social and have an easier time to talk to a hot girl when I have the chance. Be social for the sake of being social. We’re humans; we are social by nature. Think of us being social animals. If a person didn’t talk to anyone, then he or she will have no reason for living.
Life is about being social, not about being with hot girls. Girls will come by us being social. I now have my social switch set to “on at all times”. I talk to so many people now. When I am on the elevator I talk to people. It brightens their day and you can feel good about yourself for making someone else feel good. Back to the bar/lounge. David tells us to call it a night. I am getting ready to leave and I see Jordan talking to someone. I introduce myself to the person Jordan was talking to. The person Jordan was talking to; his name is Zaid. Me and Zaid talk for about two minutes and then he goes, “Hey Red, we should hang out sometime, can I get your number?” I give it to Zaid. See by being social, someone’s life can change. I know mine did for sure.
Sunday was a reinforcement day. We went over everything we learned on Saturday. Saturday without a doubt is the most grueling day. What we learned Saturday, we all put it to use on the streets. We split up and went into stores. I learned from David and Yakub that when you enter a store, go in like you own the place. Make sure you make eye contact and say hi or acknowledge the employees of the store when coming in. It sets a good vibe. I worked with Yakub and he walked into every store, made eye contact, said hello and did everything with a smile. The employees and customers seemed to be running towards him. Yakub’s vibe is so amazing. Crazy thing is he did the Boot camp in August of 2007 and he is already up to this level of confidence! What can I say? Yakub is the man.
Then towards the end of the day, I was fortunate enough to have dinner with David, Bryan and Grant. All three of those guys gave me great feedback. I felt amazing, since I got such great feedback. I knew then, that my new life just started. Then later on when it was time for David and his instructors to say good bye to us; David told us where we succeeded and what we still need to work on. The weekend Boot camp to me was a miracle for me and M.P. Wherever me and him fucked up in life, the Boot camp helped us improve on areas where we needed work on. I can honestly say that I started enjoying life Sunday night. Me and M.P. came to my house and we wanted to do something to continue to feel this high from the Boot camp.
During the Boot camp David advised me and M.P. to watch the movie “Swingers”. Then me and M.P. go to Blockbuster and we are there at Blockbuster for about twenty minutes. We talked to random customers. We made them laugh. It was a great feeling to make people laugh. Life is pretty good right now. It seems that me and M.P. can go up to anyone and start a conversation.
So you wanna know how much confidence I have right now at this very moment? Okay, I’ll tell you. Around October 2007, I saw one of the most beautiful girls I ever saw in my life. She works in my building. I saw her and I couldn’t stop staring. All I wanted to do was get in her pants. I told myself, “Yeah she’d be real good”. Whenever I would see her, which is about once or twice a month, I would see her going into the elevator. I always made it my business to not be seen by her. I was intimidated by her very much.
Well guys, a few days after the Boot camp, I am on my lunch break. I am leaving my building and I see this girl who is smokin’ hot! She was hot to the point where if someone saw her, he wouldn’t be able to sleep at night. Then I realize it’s the girl who I am crazy for. She was texting someone on her phone while she was walking towards the building. Then I see her as a person and not an object. I stopped thinking about getting in her pants and I tell myself, “I should just talk to her.” She is about ten feet in front of me and she started to walk even faster towards the building.
I say, “You work in this building?” She stops and looks at me for a second. Did I forget to mention that it is super cold outside? It seemed like she wanted to get in the building and warm up. She said she worked in the building. I ask her what company she works for. I let her talk and then when it is time for me to talk, I talk. We talk for about three minutes. I tell her, “It’s kinda cold, you should go back in and warm up. Give me your number and we’ll talk again”. She smiles, then takes my phone and puts her number in!!! Granted my heart was pounding like you wouldn’t believe, but I held it all in. Once she said bye and turned around, I turned around myself and then started to relax again. I’ve never been that nervous before. But I did it, I got her number and I called her and she is a super cool girl. It’s an added bonus that she is smokin’ hot. We’ll be hanging out soon or some people can say that we are going out soon, but whatever me and her are doing; we’ll have a good time : )
All I did for the last few years is walk around with my head down. I had no confidence at all. I don’t know why I felt inferior to people and why I had to no backbone. But guys, the Boot camp changed my life. I now walk with my head up high. By walking with my head up high I can see so many things. I see people, I see everyone and with my head up high, I see opportunities I never would have. Now I am not even thinking about what is going to come out of my mouth next. I don’t even think about it. I finally get life now; life is about being social and meeting people. Meet as many people as you can. You wanna hear some more crazy stuff? I was scared to go to the bathroom at work because I didn’t want to talk to anyone while I was using the urinal. It got to the point where I would time myself when I would go to the bathroom, so no one would be around. A few days after the Boot camp, I am taking a piss in the urinal and talking to the guy next to me. People just seem to be attracted to my new level of confidence, it’s great.
It’s time for me to call out Yakub. Yakub, I love you man, but I am coming for you. I am going to surpass you. Come summer time, I will be at your level. LOL. I’m kidding Yakub. But know this Yakub, you will have a friend that is similar to you in almost every way and his name is Red. I’m my own guy, but I am similar to Yakub in almost every way, but confidence wise I am not up to his level. I plan on being at his level of confidence very soon. But at the rate I am going; Yakub better watch out : ) Also, I wanna thank everyone at the Boot camp for helping me, especially David Wygant. Life is fun and exciting for me now. It can be for you, too.
