I am sitting on the plane waiting to take off to nyc and I was thinking.
Have any of you ever met anyone on a plane that you dated?
Most people on a plane tend to be anti social including myself.
Let me know your thoughts and I will post part 2 when I land.

About David
1.7 million men & women come to me every month to find the secrets to success. And after 20 years of coaching, I’ve discovered the golden keys to success in dating, business, health and wellness, and life.
I’ve helped millions of men and women around the globe achieve success in their dating, social and personal lives. I’m also a father to the world’s cutest little girl, and I am an unapologetic man. Some say I’m nuts, others say I’ve changed their life forever. One thing’s for certain: I’ll always give you the truth, whether you can handle it or not. I never sugar coat anything.
Nice is so overrated. I’d prefer brutally honest breakthrough to a “nice” rut any damn day of the week. If you’re the same way, then you've come to the right place.
I was on the road about 200 days a year, so I was always on a plane.
I never dated someone I met. I had some great conversations with women. One time I knew the woman was interested, but I was in a relationship. Another time, a girl was quite attractive and a great conversationalist, but she was connecting to somewhere else and lived 1000 miles from me.
David, you probably fly first class so the "vibe" is different. I'd fly up there sometimes when I had enough miles or they bumped me automatically. Back in coach its a bit more crammed and stuffy, especially now since the big airlines have removed the roomier rows.
A friend is dating a girl from Virginia that he met on a flight from Atlanta up to Richmond. But he's a serious extrovert who meets people everywhere!
I never had dates/relationships with people whom I met on the airplane, but sometimes I have interesting conversations with people. Some people are not really open to talking with strangers on the plane I guess.
The first flight I took, I was seated next to a Rabbi. The second flight, I was seated next to a Priest. So no, I haven't dated anyone I met on a plane.
Or maybe these seat assignments are a sign from above that I should be looking for a man of the cloth? :o)
I'm afraid, David, that I'm also guilty of being a somewhat anti-social flyer. I usually bring a significant volume of all the reading material I don't have time to get to in my day-to-day life ... and then I let myself get lost in that for the entirety of the flight.
Not that I am unfriendly if addressed, but I have to admit I've never tried (nor has anyone ever tried with me) to have a romantic connection on a plane.
Interesting Blog David considering I'm boarding later. From another Blog entry I wrote I am unapproachable when traveling because it is a perfect place for me to work (or sleep) without being bothered. However, keeping in the spirit of your Blog I will look around to see if there is anyone I feel like wasting time with. And I shall report back whatever occurs .... in detail.
How would that be?
Once in a plane, I was sitting next to a Rabbi and a Priest. I overhead their conversation. They looked at each other and didn't say anything. Then later on the Priest asked the Rabbi, if he ever succumbed to temptation. The Rabbi nodded yes, and the Priest looked at him with empathy. A little later the Rabbi asked the Priest the same question. The Priest nodded yes and the Rabbi said "I see". 20 minutes later the Rabbi said "I was weak once and ate a ham sandwich". The Priest nodded approvingly, as if saying he understood fallling to temptation. 20 minutes later the Priest said "I once was weak and had carnal relations with a woman". The Rabbi looked at the Priest with empathy. 5 minutes later, the Rabbi said "Sure beats the hell of out of a Ham Sandwich, doesn't it?".
No mile high action tonight for me on the plane!
Then again the idea of having sex in one of the nasty plane bathrooms does nothing for me.
No good conversations on this fight tonight either but I am always open to meeting new people on a plane!
David;
lol Do people actually HAVE sex in an aiplane bathroom?? lol That wouldn't be obvious now would it. NEVER thank you very much.
I have never dated anyone in "all" my flight history, but I did have a very adorable, eye loving, big smiling, sweet, very attentive steward tend to me on my flight home from CA. When we had landed, I waited to be one of the last ones out of an every seat filled plane. Easier that way when you are ready to drop in a heap. I have no desire to race anyone out of a plane.
He grabbed my hand to shake it, kind of hold it in both of his hands, I am sure still concerned of my previous "emotional state" of crying out the window, and joked of a "lay over" if I needed further comforting over .."say coffee?" lol
I just half ass smiled and told him thank you for being so sweet, bowed my head down and retrieved my hand.
Of course my son was behind me giving me a hard time telling me to just look at the ground from now on! LOL Ummmmm Yea!
I don't think so.
I am learning what draws men to me. I just disreguard the bothersome and am starting to enjoy the attention of the rest.;)
I am a woman and a human. Normal behavior I'd say----wouldn't you?
Well I haven't flown commercial since 2003 and then I was oh so married and trying to keep a 16 year old who looked like she was 20, a 14, and a 12 year old boys in line. My daughter met up with a rather fine looking young man as I recall it. Right now, though I'm flight nursing and most of our staff is married. That however, doesn't keep me from engaging in conversation with ground crew at the new airport and other pilots of non commercial craft. I maybe flew once or twice prior to marrying...and I didn't date them, but had a few conversations. Its kind of hard to recall what I was doing specifically between the ages of 18 & 19. I do however fondly remember walking into any place and people stared....and no I didn't have my eyes crossed.lol.
A few years ago I used to weekly commute Amsterdam London but the flights were almost all business men. Nearly no women at all.
These days I travel by intercity train quite often and have met quite a few people that way. Some of them have even become good friends that I hook up with even off the train. I did get a date that way earlier this year but nothing became of it.
The train may be easier to meet others planes as passengers tend to sit facing each other and are more able to move about, go to the cafe car, etc. Though here in Europe we have a much larger intercity train network than the US.
I find that people on public transport are not initially open to chatting with strangers but once they realise that you're not a weirdo they warm up quite quickly.
If you regularly travel the same route like I do, you will soon see the same faces. Then its almost rude not to say hi and introduce yourself.
Yes, I have dated someone I met on a plane.
I met him on a flight from Dallas to Los Angeles while we both were in first. we started up a conversation that lasted the whole flight home......We dated throughout the summer, but I left in the fall to go back to teach skiing....Yes, I even dated someone (a non local) I met on a ski lift.
I was luckily born with the gift for gab.
Faryn,
I'd even say "Hi" to you if I sat next to you on a plane because I find it important to at least acknowledge that person due to the fact that he/she may be the last person you talk to in the event of a possible "Lost" catastrophe. But, since I enjoy my quiet time on a plane I'd leave it at that, unless it was a enjoyable two way conversation. None the less, at least give the "smile" hello so that person knows you are not a possible Al-Qaeda member.
Remember, "Always Talk to Strangers" DW :)
Hey, J-Dude,
Tell us about your dating life....
Some people here feel that sex on a plane is not a very attractive idea... Indeed ... what if airplane crushes when you are in the middle of actions? You can't tell, hold on a second....
What is your opinion? Have you ever met anyone in the air? :)
Yes Jessica, I have met people in the air and at the Baggage claim. At the Baggae claim ivisiting Hawaii, this lady gave me her contact info, while she was there on Vacation. Also, she was visiting from Mexico. I was vacationing with my 2 kids (single dad) and thought hanging wiht her while there wouldn't be cool... but I guess she wasn't really my type.
I also talked to someone while flying, but didn't ask for he number, even though there was attraction... one I kicked myself after for not going for it.
About the plane bathrooms... I have always thought no, but I used to think the same thing about cars, and I ended up doing the car thing once... :)
Ohhhh, in a car.... in a car all of us did it.... it is not the big deal, but on a plane... It would be an interesting question to ask a pilot!
Do we have any pilots here?
Never dated somebody I met on a plane, but back in the day the flight attendants used to hit me up all the time... and no, they weren't just doing their job. ;-)
You know, it happened to me twice, no, one and a half times, but I was younger, and so was the world (like, 30 years ago).
The "half-time" occurred while I was flying to the Orient for some back-packing travel. Sat next to a very boring guy on the plane. However, he mentioned early on that his friend Eric could give both of us a ride from the airport to the coast, so I behaved in a friendly enough manner. Once we landed, his friend turned out to be fun, and free, and also interested in random traveling. I'll never forget those 6 weeks.:-)))
The second time, was a year later, back from more back-packing in a different part of the world. Sat next to a very cute but very sleepy blond guy. However, the plane (a very old one, we were flying charter) broke down, and we landed in Greece for repairs. The blond guy had to wake up when they kicked us out of the plane, so we decided to have coffee together, traded travel stories, watched the sun set over the airport. Ate some gyro sandwiches. Watched the sun *rise* over the airport (it was a very old plane). Had more coffee. Got back on the plane (maybe a different one?), I fell asleep on his shoulder, by that time *everybody* was sleepy, we cuddled underneath a sleeping bag, nothing much, just really cozy. After we finally arrived, we dated for a few months, but it could not last, he was kind of serious and I was a bit too wild for his taste.
I also met a guy on a bus, does that count?
My husband, I met in a doorway: I was leaving, he was arriving, but he got my number from the people in the house. I have not been wild in years, but we do travel together, a lot.
Once I met this amazing guy named Joey. We had one of the best conversations I have ever had in my life. Unfortunately I was in a relationship at the time (and I got dumped two days later). He was obviously interested in me but I had to give him the shot down. I REALLY wish I would have gotten some contact info from the guy. He was amazing. I didn't, but I think about this guy all the time. Everytime I fly I hope I am somehow going to see him again. But it doesn't happen. Can someone help me find him? lol. All I know about him is that he was living in Colorado, had just moved there from LA. And he was going to visit his mother in the Dayton, Ohio area. He is blonde and maybe was studying to be a nurse. We were on a flight from Dallas to Dayton.
Have fun when you fly. You can meet amazing people.
did happen to me to fall for a guy I met on a flight... I was in a relationship but I never told him. obviously he was very much interested.. anyhow we are still in touch, and I do hope to meet him soon :)
