Happy New Year! It’s 12:01 a.m on January 1st, 2008. You’re drunk and hanging out with a bunch of drunk strangers in the middle of what you thought was going to be this AMAZING night.
Your friends have been calling you for weeks saying “What are you doing for New Year’s Eve?” You thought long and hard. You tried to find the party of the year . . . the party that was going to change your entire year.
C’mon now! Your year cannot be a success unless you find the best party on the most over hyped amateur night of the year? That’s right . . . New Year’s Eve is for amateurs.
Here is how I feel about New Year’s Eve: I am not going to some restaurant to pay $185.00 for a price-fixed menu that usually runs me $75.00. I also don’t want to stand around a crowded nightclub watching a bunch of strangers get drunk and desperate to find other random strangers to kiss at midnight.
I did not spend the entire month of December trying to hunt down the greatest New Year’s Eve party so I that could try to have the most amazing night of the year. The other 364 days of this year for me have already been amazing.
One night is not going to change what your social life was like the rest of the year. It just doesn’t work that way. I get so many people who make such a big deal over “5-4-3-2-1 Woohoo Happy New Year!”
My best New Year’s Eves have been when I have avoided all the hype. My ex and I liked to go to Europe and spend New Year’s in another city. Most New Year’s when I was with her, I was sleeping by the time “5-4-3-2-1 Happy New Year!” was counted down.
New Year’s Eve is the most over hyped night of the year. Just because you are going to the so-called ‘coolest party of the year’ does not mean that your luck is going to change with the opposite sex. No matter where you are, you still need the skills to engage women.
Not only that, but do you really enjoy watching people get so drunk and stupid just because it’s New Year’s Eve? Now call me an old fuddy-duddy if you want, but I really have no interest at all in doing anything on New Year’s Eve.
I like to spend New Year’s Eve with friends – real friends – sitting around having some good food and just talking. I don’t need to be around total strangers. I don’t need to try to hook up with somebody just because it’s New Year’s Eve. To me, New Year’s Eve is just a Monday night without the football game.
You can’t go out with a bang unless the whole year has been a bang. It’s really important for you to realize that one night (and one party) is not going to change things. Finding “that party” is usually not worth the effort.
The most disappointing night of the year is always New Year’s Eve because the expectations are always the highest. You put so much time, effort and energy into planning what you hope will be the most perfect night . . . when really, the most perfect night would be a gathering of close friends.
Spend the night with them sitting around talking, having some dinner and watching all the drunks in Times Square on television. Spend it remembering what a great year it’s been and what great friends these people are to you.
New Year’s Eve is no different than Halloween, except you have costumes on Halloween. It is also no different than trying to find the perfect party on the 4th of July, except of course that noisemakers substitute for the fireworks.
So if you’ve got nothing going on tonight, I have a new tradition to start: Hang out on the blog and talk about what your year was all about. Talk about what you accomplished. Talk about how you grew. Talk about what you learned about yourself this year.
Tonight we’ll be celebrating on the blog in different time zones. For those of you on the east coast, Happy New Year a few hours earlier. For those of you in Europe, Happy New Year even earlier than that. If you get lonely tonight, someone will be here on the blog to share an open and honest evening with you.
From my family (Daphne, Booms and Myself) to you, Happy New Year!! All of you have made my year really special. Thanks for your comments and for your support. I look forward to making 2008 an amazing year with all of you!
Todays video is all about how to be mentally strong when speaking with a woman.
