Life is all about being happy, but it seems like so many of you see happy people and get pissed off. What’s that about? You get angry because someone else is happy? It’s as if being grumpy and miserable became cool!
Well, it’s not. And today I want to give you 3 simple ways to make yourself happy.
1. Wake Up On The Right Side Of Bed
Happiness is a mindset, and when you wake up in the morning, you decide whether it is going to be a good day or a bad day. I know you’re thinking to yourself, “How can I decide it is going to be a good day or a bad day before the day has even happened yet?”
Mindset is everything in life. When you wake up in the morning you need to tell yourself, “Today is going to be great. No matter what happens today, whether it’s good or bad, I’m going to be able to take each moment as it arises. I’m going to embrace life as it presents itself and today is just going to be another spectacular day to live.”
When you do that, you are setting a positive intention.
2. Remember That ‘Shit Happens’
Shit happens. You may not like it, but it just does. There are going to be days where shit goes wrong for you. You’re going to wake up in a good mood, get to the office, and within minutes, your boss is going to dump stuff on you.
Your kid is going to be mad at you. You’re going to get into a fight with your significant other. But you know what…shit happens. It’s how we deal with the shit that happens that determines whether or not we have a great day. Moments happen. You have to accept the storms, and embrace them.
3. Realize There Are NO Bad Days
There are no bad days in life. There are only bad moments. That to me is the ultimate mindset to have. When your boss dumps a last minute project on you and says you can’t leave until you’re done, you’re having a bad moment. You’re having a two-hour period, and that’s it.
When you’re sitting in traffic, (especially in Los Angeles) you’re sitting in it temporarily. Everything in life that comes up is temporary, and how you look at it determines whether you continue to have the great day you were having. That is how I look at things. I don’t allow moments to ruin my day.
Too many times I hear this from people…
“I had a really rotten day.”
How is your entire day rotten? It’s impossible. It is impossible to have a day that is rotten from start to finish. There is no way in the world every minute of your day is rotten. It’s how you look at things. It’s how you frame things. In fact, when I was driving dictating this blog, this guy in front of me was driving slow. He was driving me crazy.
The rest of the traffic was moving, I couldn’t get into the left lane. He puts on his blinker and he moves slowly to try to park the car, but he doesn’t fully do it. He’s still in my lane, and he’s still moving slowly. This little moment could trigger people off to lose their temper, but this moment is just a moment.
When the shit hits the fan, it’s just a moment. You’ll recover and you’ll continue to go on your day. Your day still has many adventures left. A moment is just a moment. Allow that moment to happen and continue on the beautiful gift called life.
That’s how you change the way your mind works. I don’t have a bad day, I only have bad moments, and moments only last for a very short amount of time. Try it, and see how much better you feel about life!
