I was cruising the Internet today, no pun intended, and I read an article on Kerry Rhodes. Kerry Rhodes is a great safety in the NFL. In fact, he’s one of my favorite players. He’s a hard hitter, vocal, always somebody you can watch and know he put 100% effort in. 

According to Pro Football Focus, they ranked him the fourth best safety in the NFL in 2012. And yet, nobody signed him. Some say it’s because he’s the wrong side of 30, other because he’s indulged in the celebrity lifestyle: magazine covers, red carpet, television appearances.

He also supposedly priced himself out of the market. You’re talking $3M a year plus. The thing is he actually got those offers already. For some reason he didn’t take them, and no one signed him. So what’s really going on?

The rumors are that he has some “sexual orientation issues.” I love the way the NFL puts it: “sexual orientation issues.”

Could Kerry Rhodes possibly be gay?

How would you feel about that?

Would it upset you if Rhodes was gay?

You know some professional athletes are gay, but they’re hidden. They’re in the closet. You’re out of your mind if you think they’re not. The statistics make it almost impossible for there to be no gay sports stars. How would you feel if your favorite sports star came out and told the world that he was gay?

How would you feel if your best friend looked at you after 30 years and said, “You know what, I’m gay!”

It’s something we’ve never really spoken about on the blog, but it’s an important conversation to have. It’s an important conversation for the world to have. So how does it make you feel that one of your favorite sports stars might actually prefer to get in the locker room and snap the towel at his team mates, or enjoys the group shower?

Would it make you support another team? Would you stop cheering for that particular player? It’s going to happen. Eventually, football players, baseball players, hockey, and soccer players are going to start coming out while they’re still playing. We’re heading in that direction and I’ve got to tell you something…

In a society where the black population still discriminated against, I wonder how America the Judgmental will react when their beloved sports stars start coming out. I’m real curious, because open-minded as America tends to be, I saw the movie “The Butler” a couple of weeks ago, and it made me realize that our country isn’t as open-minded as we pretend to be.

We fear what isn’t like us!
